Paul Smith has been lived on board his narrowboat "James" since April 2010. The boat was in a poor state of repair after years of neglect. His first winter on board was the coldest since records began with overnight lows of minus eighteen and sub zero daytime highs.
During his time on board, Paul has recorded every penny spent on the upkeep and improvement of his boat. In this comprehensive guide, Paul covers every area of narrowboat expenditure from the purchase of your first craft and the associated costs, to essential licensing, boat safety checks, insurance, utilities and propulsion fuel.
Paul also details the cost of making phone calls, connecting to the internet, TV licensing, council tax and how much you’ll be charged to empty your toilet. He discusses the range of mooring and their fees that are available to you (and when you won't need to pay mooring fees at all).
If you are considering buying a narrowboat you need to know how much you'll need to pay to keep your boat comfortable, legal and well maintained. This guide is essential reading whether you are thinking of buying a narrowboat to live on or to use for occasional cruising.
Living On A Narrowboat The REAL Cost Of A Life Afloat eBook Paul Smith
I would recommend this book for anyone interested in living aboard a narrowboat, on Britain's inland waterways. The authors describes his experience from finding his narrowboat to successfully living aboard. The book contains some great tips and information, but lacks a few things. This book doesn't cover continuous cursing. It is geared more towards a person who plans to use their boat as a stationary home. I would have also like a little more information on the purchasing process, including how to value a boat based on it's features.Product details
